Union Board approves medical cannabis exemption in employee drug testing policy

NY UNION — Town of Union Board unanimously approves medical cannabis exception in drug testing policy. The board voted unanimously to amend the town's drug and alcohol testing policy, clarifying that a verified positive THC test attributable solely to lawful medical cannabis use shall not constitute a policy violation for non-federally regulated employees if not impaired during work. Councilman Joseph P.
Nirchi Sr. introduced the resolution, adopted retroactive to May 1, 2026, subject to collective bargaining agreements. The board also unanimously approved $8,700 in engineering services from Griffiths Engineering and accepted a stormwater maintenance agreement for Hooper Road Apartments.
